This reference is the first Speedmaster to feature the black aluminum tachymeter bezel and "Alpha" style hands, replacing the Broad Arrow handset of the inaugural model. It utilizes the manual-wind Calibre 321 movement and a 39mm stainless steel case with straight lugs and no crown guards. Collectors prioritize the CK2998-1 for its transitional role in the model's evolution and its association with early space exploration, as a later CK2998 variant was the first Omega worn in space. On the secondary market, well-preserved examples typically command prices in the $150,000 to $250,000 range.
