About this reference

Produced between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, the Zenith A. Cairelli CP-2 was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Defense through the Rome-based distributor A. Cairelli. Collectors prioritize this reference for its 43mm stainless steel case, rotating 60-minute bezel, and the manual-wind caliber 146DP movement. Approximately 2,500 units were manufactured, with many issued to the Aeronautica Militare Italiana (A.M.I.), though some remained in civilian stock. Military-issued examples are distinguished by "A.M.I." or "M.M." engravings and inventory numbers on the caseback. On the secondary market, prices typically range from $12,000 to $25,000 depending on the presence of military markings and original dial condition. A notable production detail is the matte black dial featuring two registers and tritium Arabic numerals. While Zenith released a modern "Heritage" reissue in 2016, the original vintage reference remains the primary focus for military chronograph collectors.
