Patek Philippe produced the Reference 1579 from 1943 until approximately 1964. This model is distinguished by its 36mm case featuring faceted "spider" lugs and a caliber 13-130 manual-wind movement. While the reference was primarily manufactured in yellow and pink gold, the platinum variant is exceptionally rare, with only three examples known to exist. Collectors prioritize this reference for its unique lug architecture and its status as one of the largest chronographs produced by the brand during the mid-twentieth century. Secondary market values for the platinum 1579 occupy the high-seven-figure range, reflecting its extreme scarcity compared to steel or gold counterparts. A notable auction result occurred in 2011 when a platinum example with a blue enamel scale sold for over 2 million CHF. Each of the three known platinum units features distinct dial configurations, further differentiating them for specialized collectors.
