About this reference

The Vacheron Constantin reference 6087 was produced between 1954 and 1959, with a total production of approximately 36 units. Of these, 26 were cased in 18k yellow gold. Collectors prioritize this reference as the first water-resistant chronograph from the manufacturer, characterized by its screw-down caseback and distinctive cow-horn lugs. It houses the manual-wind Caliber 492, a column-wheel movement based on a Valjoux 23 ebauche. The dial typically features a tachymeter scale and two sub-dials. Due to its extreme rarity and historical position as the brand's final mid-century chronograph, secondary market prices generally fall within the mid-to-high six-figure range. A notable auction result occurred in 2015 when a yellow gold example sold for approximately $450,000. While the design was revived in the modern Historiques line, the original 6087 remains one of the rarest vintage chronographs from the Holy Trinity makers.
