Produced between approximately 1965 and 1969, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6240 was the first Daytona model to feature screw-down chronograph pushers, establishing the "Oyster" waterproof designation for the line. Collectors value this reference as a transitional prototype that bridged the gap between early pump-pusher models and the later 6263 and 6265 references. It is powered by the manual-wind Caliber 722 and was manufactured exclusively in stainless steel with a black acrylic tachymeter bezel. Due to its short production run, it is significantly rarer than subsequent manual-wind Daytonas. On the secondary market, prices typically range from $100,000 to over $250,000 depending on condition and dial configuration. A notable variant is the "Solo" dial, which features only the word "Rolex" without the "Cosmograph" or "Daytona" text, often commanding a premium at international auctions.
