The Vacheron Constantin reference 222 in stainless steel was produced between 1977 and approximately 1985 to celebrate the brand’s 222nd anniversary. Designed by Jörg Hysek, the model features a 37mm monobloc tonneau case with a serrated bezel and a Maltese cross inlay at the five o’clock position. It is powered by the ultra-thin caliber 1121, based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 920. Collectors value the steel variant for its rarity, as only around 500 units were manufactured in the "Jumbo" size. While Vacheron Constantin released a yellow gold reissue in 2022, the original steel reference remains out of production. On the secondary market, these vintage steel examples typically command prices in the low-to-mid six-figure range, often exceeding $150,000 depending on condition. A notable auction result occurred in 2023 when a well-preserved steel 222 sold for over $180,000, reflecting its scarcity compared to gold counterparts.
