Editorial standards
Methodology
Transparency on how we source data, vet partners, and present analysis. Updated as our process evolves.
Live inventory
Inventory is refreshed daily at 06:00 UTC from public product feeds of vetted partner retailers. Current sources:
- Hodinkee Shop — editorial-curated US retailer, ~2,700 references in our archive ($25-$123k range)
- Watches Of USA — authorised US dealer (Awin partner) selling Rolex, AP, Patek and others
- Bulang & Sons — German vintage specialist, ~1,400 references with strong Patek/Rolex depth
- Watch-Affinity — US Rolex specialist at $50k-$500k tier, ~1,800 references
Each listing is parsed for brand, reference number, case material, complications, and price. We retain both currently in-stock items and recently-sold archive (~75% of total) — collectors find the archive useful for tracking what sold at what price.
Retailer vetting
We only feature retailers that meet one or more of:
- Authorised dealer status with at least one Holy Trinity brand (Patek/AP/VC) or Rolex
- Established secondary-market presence with documented authentication processes
- Editorial-grade curation track record (e.g. Hodinkee)
- Specialised expertise in a defined category (e.g. Bulang for vintage Patek, Bob's for Rolex)
We do not feature: unverified individual sellers, marketplaces without authentication guarantees, retailers operating only via WhatsApp/Telegram.
Affiliate disclosure
We earn commission on qualifying purchases through partner retailers. Currently: Awin (Watches Of USA joined, 7 luxury watch programs pending), plus direct programs with several brands. Commission does not affect editorial coverage or rankings — auction comps, comparison pages, and rankings are based on documented data only.
Auction comp database
Our auction database aggregates documented hammer prices from Phillips, Christie's, Sotheby's, Antiquorum and Bonhams. Each lot includes venue, year, and source attribution. Hammer prices include buyer's premium. We restrict the database to publicly documented sales — no estimates, no private-treaty data, no anonymous transactions.
Investment data
Investment ROI projections use Knight Frank Luxury Investment Index (2024 edition) as the headline benchmark, supplemented with auction-comparable holding-period analysis. Past performance is no guarantee of future results — this is informational, not financial advice. Brokerage fees, insurance, storage and authentication costs are not factored into the projections.
AI usage
We use Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Live for: (a) the conversational concierge that helps visitors find references; (b) classification of inbound contact-form submissions into press / retailer / buyer categories; (c) weekly editorial post generation on rotating topics (auction recaps, brand deep-dives, complication explainers, buyer guides). All AI-generated content is clearly labelled. Brand descriptions, comparison verdicts, ranking commentary, methodology — all written by humans.
Geographic / currency
Currency is auto-detected from your IP (via Cloud Run country header) or browser language. FX rates refresh daily from exchangerate-api.com. Cross-border tax/VAT data in our investment section is based on jurisdiction rates as of 2026 — please verify with a local tax advisor before transacting.
